The invention discloses an overhead transmission line helicopter live-line joint detection device and method, and the device comprises a control terminal and an execution terminal which are in communication connection, and the execution terminal is at least provided with a skeleton of a U-shaped structure, an X-ray machine which is installed on the skeleton and is used for detecting the defects of a transmission line, and a detector. The control electric box is electrically connected with the X-ray machine, the detector and the first servo motor, and the control electric box is further electrically connected with a spherical camera used for checking the clamping condition of the power transmission line and a binocular distance measuring camera used for checking the distance between the power transmission line and the framework. The detection device can be driven according to different working conditions by arranging the drivable first pulley block and the drivable second pulley block, movement of the detection device on the power transmission line is achieved, meanwhile, the actual detection position is determined by combining real-time images collected by the spherical camera, and the detection accuracy is guaranteed.
