The invention discloses a large floating dock on-water closure and butt joint method which comprises the following steps: A, carrying out on-water large closure by adopting a tower type construction mode, and sequentially carrying out closure towards the bow and the stern by taking a floating box section as a reference section; b, a tool waterproof sleeve is built; c, folding the floating dock on water, leveling and pulling the two floating box blocks, and aligning the centers of the two floating box blocks; d, dragging the waterproof sleeve to enable the waterproof sleeve to work normally; e, welding and coating of a folding seam of the buoyancy tank are carried out, and after welding and coating are completed, the waterproof sleeve is moved out; f, dock wall positioning, measuring and installing are conducted after the buoyancy tanks are folded on water. According to the overwater closure and butt joint method for the large floating dock, through repeated measurement and calculation, a simple and feasible method combining optical theodolite measurement and computer simulation calculation is explored to avoid the influence of temperature difference hydrology on precision, and closure measurement and positioning work in a floating state is completed. The overwater closure of the large floating dock opens up a precedent for the overwater closure of large ships.
