The invention relates to the technical field of new energy vehicles, in particular to a thermal management method of a power battery, which comprises the following steps: after a whole vehicle is electrified, acquiring the current temperature of the power battery of the whole vehicle; the current temperature is judged; and if the current temperature is not smaller than the temperature threshold value of the power battery, a power supply loop of the power battery is disconnected, power is supplied to a water pump of the whole vehicle through a storage battery of the whole vehicle, and the water pump is controlled to be in a running state. According to the method, the thermal runaway of the power battery is efficiently managed and controlled, the management and control efficiency of the thermal runaway of the power battery is improved, fire and explosion of the power battery caused by expansion of the thermal runaway of the power battery are avoided, and the occurrence rate of thermal runaway safety events of the power battery is effectively reduced; and it is ensured that passengers have more escape time when an accident happens to the whole vehicle.
