The invention relates to a method for automatically adjusting an operating mode of a hybrid vehicle (1), in which method, after determining a route (6) to a target (7), it is checked whether a distance from the target (7) is greater than a range of travel of the hybrid vehicle (1) that can be traveled by an electric drive, the hybrid vehicle (1) is automatically placed in a hybrid mode when the distance from the target (7) is greater than a range of travel through which the hybrid vehicle (1) can pass by purely electric power, and the hybrid vehicle (1) is automatically placed in a purely electric driving mode when the distance from the target (7) is not greater than the range of travel through which the hybrid vehicle (1) can pass by purely electric power. The invention further relates to a control device (5) for carrying out such a method and to a hybrid vehicle (1) having such a control device (5).
