In accordance with an exemplary embodiment, methods and systems are provided for controlling an automatic overtaking function of a host vehicle. In such example embodiments, a disclosed method includes: (i) obtaining, by a plurality of sensors, sensor data relating to a host vehicle and a road on which the host vehicle travels; (ii) determining, by the processor, when an automatic overtaking is suggested using the sensor data in combination with one or more thresholds; (iii) receiving driver input related to automatic overtaking; and (iv) adjusting, by the processor, one or more thresholds for automatic overtaking based on the driver input.
