The invention provides an outdoor insulator fault detection method based on temperature analysis. The method comprises the following steps: (1) collecting a temperature signal of an insulator; (2) calculating the temperature rise of the insulator; (3) whether the insulator is abnormal or not is judged according to the temperature rise, and if yes, the step (4) is executed; if not, returning to the step (1); (4) carrying out temperature rise classification according to the temperature rise position and the temperature rise area form; and (5) determining the fault level of the insulator in combination with the temperature rise. The invention provides an outdoor insulator fault detection method based on temperature analysis, which can accurately judge whether the insulator is abnormal or not and the abnormal degree and position, so that effective measures can be taken in time, and safe and reliable work of the insulator is ensured.
