The invention relates to an elevator control cabinet and a method. The cabinet provides a space which is enclosed by walls and a roof. One of the walls consists entirely or partly of a removable cover or a door covering an access opening into the space. An electrical apparatus is provided in the space, the apparatus has a front part facing the access opening and a back part facing away from the access opening. In order to simplify assembly and disassembly of the cabinet, a pair of rails are attached to one or more of the walls to extend towards the access opening. The electrical apparatus comprises a pair of rollers arranged to contact the pair of rails. At least one lifting element is provided in an upper part of the electrical apparatus at a location closer to the front part than said pair of rollers, said lifting element providing an attachment point for hoisting the electrical apparatus.
