The invention discloses a high-voltage discharge method and device, a vehicle control unit and a new energy electric vehicle. The method comprises the following steps: detecting whether a control switch of a power battery is switched off or not; when it is detected that the control switch of the power battery is switched off, detecting whether a motor controller and/or a driving motor break down or not; and when it is detected that no fault exists, controlling the driving motor to work and controlling one or more high-voltage loads in a high-voltage loop to work at the same time via the motor controller so as to jointly discharge residual electric quantity in the high-voltage loop of the new energy electric vehicle, or when a fault is detected, controlling one or more high-voltage loads in the high-voltage loop to work. Therefore, the technical problems that timely voltage relief cannot be guaranteed and the safety is reduced in the prior art since only the driving motor is used for voltage relief, and only a voltage relief resistor is used for passive voltage relief or even voltage relief cannot be carried out once the driving motor breaks down are solved.
