The invention relates to a sea wave measuring device and a method for measuring sea waves. The sea wave measuring device is provided with an electronic cabin and a heavy hammer. By means of an inflatable air bag on the upper portion of the electronic cabin of the sea wave measuring device and the heavy hammer on the lower portion of the electronic cabin, the sea wave measuring device can float in waves and keep vertical as much as possible, and therefore more accurate wave height data can be obtained. Furthermore, the sea wave measuring device can be combined with a landing device, so that a large number of the sea wave measuring devices can be spread to a target sea area, so that the sea wave data of the target sea area can be timely and conveniently known. Besides, the sea wave measuring device is provided with a self-destruction device, so that after sea wave data is obtained, the sea wave measuring device can be self-destructed and does not need to be recycled, and the navigation cost, the instrument and equipment recycling cost, the maintenance cost and the like can be saved.
