The invention relates to vehicle-mounted equipment capable of efficiently shunting and a method thereof. The vehicle-mounted equipment has a shunting mode and a passive shunting mode, when the vehicle-mounted equipment is in the passive shunting mode, a driver activates a driving platform, the vehicle-mounted equipment directly enters the shunting mode, shunting operation can be carried out immediately, the power-on process and the shunting mode entering process of the vehicle-mounted equipment are omitted, and the working efficiency is greatly improved. The efficient shunting operation can berealized by only arranging one set of vehicle-mounted equipment on the train, so that the cost can be saved, and the mounting space can also be saved.
