The invention discloses a speed measuring device based on a twin elevator, the twin elevator and a monitoring method for the twin elevator. The twin elevator comprises two lift cars which are arrangedup and down in the vertical direction and run in the same shaft, the speed measuring device comprises a plurality of inertia wheels, a traction part and a plurality of sensors; each lift car is provided with the corresponding one or more inertia wheels; the traction part is arranged between the top and the bottom of the shaft in a tensioned state around the inertia wheels, and when the lift carsrun up and down in the shaft, the inertia wheels rotate under the action of the traction part; and the corresponding position of each lift car is provided with the corresponding one or more sensors, and each sensor obtains the speed and/or position of the lift car where the sensor is located by detecting rotation of the inertia wheels on the lift car. By using the device, the speed and position ofthe lift cars can be measured and calculated more accurately, so that the lift cars always run within an allowable safe distance, safe operation of the elevator is guaranteed, and the transportationefficiency is also improved.
