The invention relates to a control device for a hybrid vehicle. The purpose of the present invention is to appropriately eliminate backlash in an electric transmission mechanism and suppress deterioration in energy efficiency when a pressing torque is applied to the electric transmission mechanism during motor travel. According to the present invention, when a pushing torque generated by a first rotary machine (MG1), which acts in a predetermined clearance elimination direction during clearance elimination in a transmission unit (22), is applied to the transmission unit (22) during motor travel, the pushing torque is applied to the transmission unit (22). When the MG1 electrical angle ([theta] em1) is within a prescribed electrical angle range of a prescribed torque (Tpre) required for clearance elimination in a prescribed clearance elimination direction or more, the pressing torque is reduced compared to when the MG1 electrical angle ([theta] em1) is outside the prescribed electricalangle range. Therefore, when the backlash in the transmission unit (22) can be eliminated only by the MG1 cogging torque, it is suppressed that a large pressing torque is unnecessarily output from thefirst rotary machine MG1. Thus, when a pressing torque is applied to the transmission unit (22) during motor travel, it is possible to appropriately eliminate backlash in the transmission unit (22).Furthermore, deterioration of energy efficiency is suppressed.
