The invention discloses a battery cooling system of a hybrid electric vehicle and a control method thereof, and the battery cooling system comprises: two groups of air inlets which are symmetrically formed in two sides of a battery pack respectively; two air inlet pipelines which are in one-to-one correspondence with the two groups of air inlets, wherein the air inlet directions of the two air inlet pipelines are opposite, each group of air inlets comprises a plurality of air inlets, the air inlet end of the air inlet pipeline is selectively communicated with the air conditioner air supply pipe or the external environment of the battery pack, the air outlet end of the air inlet pipeline is communicated with the corresponding set of air inlets, and the two sets of air outlets which are formed in the two sides of the battery pack respectively, the air outlets and the air inlets are formed in different side surfaces of the battery pack; two air outlet pipelines which are in one-to-one correspondence with the two groups of air outlets respectively, wherein each group of air outlets comprises a plurality of air outlets, the air inlets end of the air outlet pipelines are communicated with the corresponding group of air outlets, and the air outlet ends of the air outlet pipelines are selectively communicated with the air conditioner air supply pipe or the external environment of the battery pack.
