The invention relates to a buffer which is a composite cup spring and elastic clay buffer. According to the buffer, buffering parts comprise a ring-like spring and an elastic clay core body. On one hand, impact energy exerted on the buffer is partially absorbed through deformation in a compression and recovery process of the cup spring and mutual friction, on the other hand, impact force is transmitted to the elastic clay core body, elastic clay is compressed by a piston of the elastic clay core body, and the other part of the impact energy is absorbed by utilizing damping generated because of flowing of the elastic clay. The buffer is mainly characterized in that the elastic clay core body is disposed in the ring-like spring, the cup spring is externally wrapped in spring boxes, two spring boxes are in connection through 10 M16 bolts, and the stroke of the buffer is guaranteed through assembly dimensions of the spring boxes and spring box covers.
