The invention discloses an OBD mode selection method and system based on the vehicle operation state. OBD modes comprise the low-power-consumption sleep mode and the normal operation mode. The method includes the specific steps that firstly, voltage change information of a battery of a vehicle is acquired; secondly, the voltage change information is verified with preset voltage change information, when verification is successful, the third step is executed, and otherwise, the low-power-consumption sleep mode for OBD is selected; thirdly, rotation speed information of an engine of the vehicle is acquired; fourthly, according to the rotation speed information of the engine of the vehicle, the corresponding OBD mode is selected. The method and system have the beneficial effects that misjudgment of the vehicle start can be avoided, so that energy consumption caused by OBD to the battery of the vehicle is reduced, the service life of the battery of the vehicle is prolonged, design is reasonable, and use is convenient.
