The invention relates to a water gauge detection method based on a fixed point camera shooting method, and relates to the technical field of water gauge measuring. The problem that a ship draught value can not be easily and accurately measured through naked eyes in severe weather is solved. The water gauge detection method includes the steps that a camera shooting device arranged at a fixed point position collects a water gauge video image of a ship; the camera shooting device transmits the collected water gauge video image to an image signal receiver; the image signal receiver transmits the received water gauge video image to a water gauge detection device; the water gauge detection device extracts a water gauge image in the water gauge video image, carries out channel binarization processing on HIS color space of the water gauge image and carries out threshold processing on the water gauge image obtained after binarization processing, and a true waterline is extracted. By means of the water gauge detection method, the position of the waterline can be conveniently, rapidly and effectively measured, personal errors are effectively avoided, and the limitation that draft weight checking is limited by the severe weather is greatly overcome.
