The present invention provides a gas generator (10) wherein a multifunctional member (30) is axially movable during operation is disposed in an ignition means chamber housing (20), the multifunctional member (30) has a cylindrical wall part (32), an annular end surface of an opening of the cylindrical wall part (32) is an inclined end surface (35) inclined with respect to a basal plate part (31), the inclined end surface (35) is disposed while being not in contact with a blocking member (12), a gas discharge path is opened by the multifunctional member (30) axially moving by the increase of internal pressure by combustion gas generated by the combustion of a gas generating agent (38) and the blocking member (12) being destroyed by the inclined end surface (35) of the cylindrical wall part (32), and the axial movement distance of the multifunctional member (30); between before and after the operation is limited by a movement limiting means such that a maximum length section of the cylindrical wall part (32) passes the blocking member (12) and a minimum length section of the cylindrical wall part (32) does not pass the blocking member (12).
