The invention discloses a vehicle speed detection method based on a three-dimensional horizontal and reverse projection plane and belongs to the traffic field. The method is used for processing collected videos, and comprises the following steps of: according to a space relation between a road and a video acquiring device, determining the transformational relation of a first road coordinate system and a second coordinate system where a video acquiring device is arranged; arranging the horizontal and reverse projection plane on the plane where the road is arranged, and determining the parameter of the horizontal and reverse projection plane; photographing quantity-predetermined images to the horizontal and reverse projection plane according to preset time intervals when detecting the vehicle to enter the horizontal and reverse projection plane; determining the vehicle speed according to the vehicle shadow information in the images. The method is characterized in that a background differencing method, a threshold valve method and a successive differential method are executed by using the horizontal and reverse projection plane to obtain the accurate vehicle speed, thus the traffic accident caused by an excessive speed is avoided to a certain extent and the driving safety is improved.
