AbstractThe experience acquired with the very satisfactory operation, for four years in orbit, of the Cactus accelerometer (a French acronym meaning UltraSensitive, Three-axis, Capacitive Accelerometric Detector) oriented ONERA towards the definition of a still more sensitive instrument, called Super-Cactus, intended for measurements in the 10−7−10−11 g range. The paper presents this project, describing successively the principle and design of the accelerometer, then analyzing the expected precision, account being taken of the satellite system and data processing method. It is at present envisioned to use Super-Cactus for determining the Earth Radiation Budget from radiation pressure measurements (project Biramis of the European Space Agency).
