AbstractThere has been a considerable increase in the share of air traffic within Europe that is carried by low-cost carriers. This paper explores the nature of the demand function for the services of such carriers and contrats it to that of the more traditional European airlines. It pays particular attention to the links that airlines have with airports and how that will need to change in the future with the growth of the low-cost carriers.
