AbstractRheinRuhr is an area where historic trade routes, national development corridors and European megacorridors all converge in a network of motorways. The settled area between Cologne, Duisburg and Dortmund is not itself a corridor, but a network of corridors. Transport bestows a unifying element in an area well known for nurturing local differences and distinctiveness. As a focal point of megacorridors, regional corridors and historic transit routes, can the RheinRuhr be a model for the region?
