Hybrid Laminar Flow Control (HLFC) has been investigated since the 1950s and implemented for flight tests on large passenger aircraft. However, those systems were too heavy and complex. Within the Clean Sky 2 program, it is targeted to develop an overall solution being profitable in later airline operation. Recent work comprised the preliminary system design of an active HLFC system in order to define an architecture. Challenges such as the consideration of safety aspects or the interference with other systems arise during the realization of such a system. A systematic approach to transfer the preliminary design into the implementation of the HLFC system is described. In this way, it is ensured that all requirements are captured, on which a certifiable architecture enclosing real-life hardware can be designed. The detailed design is supported by the Model-Based Systems Engineering approach, which is among other things used for deriving requirements, system evaluation or the conduction of safety analyses.
