Fatigue is often considered to be of secondary importance in naval architecture; to study validity of this opinion loading of longitudinal structure of modern dry cargo ship is analyzed; slamming, temperature stresses and local stresses due to water pressure are considered; resulting "minimum" fatigue loading of ship proves to be rather severe; some general conclusions about structural design are included.
