Airborne collision avoidance system (CAS) is intended for use by large aircraft; Air Transport Assn tentatively selected Synchronized Time/Frequency Range Altitude System (time-frequency) as large aircraft CAS which is under development; Dinade CAS system is intended to supplement time-frequency system by preventing collisions between fully equipped large aircraft and minimally equipped small aircraft; system is essentially coherent microwave transponder employing low-cost passive targets consisting of transmitter that radiates pure fundamental signal, diode target that receives portion of fundamental, generates harmonics of fundamental, and re-radiates harmonics back to source of original signal, and receiver tuned to harmonic fundamental.
