Adulteration of vehicle solids commonly used in traffic paints can be detected by absorption of ultraviolet radiation in range 210 to 360 mm; rotating flask evaporator operating under line vacuum of 558 mm Hg may be used to remove original volatile solvents without noticeable effects on UV pattern of alkyd resin; cyclohexane was satisfactory solvent; based on materials studied, adulteration in amounts as low as 2 to 5% by weight of vehicle solids can be detected.
