FPS-16 radar/Jimsphere wind-profile data are found to reveal small or mesoscale motions which cannot be detected with standard rawinsonde measurements; such motions often appear to be periodic, quasi-sinusoidal oscillations of small vertical extent and are observed at all altitudes below 20 km; pertinence of work for high-flying aircraft and space vehicles is indicated.
