It is noted that first documentary evidence of incorporation of hydrofoils on boat or ship is given in British Patent 2865 of 1869, granted to E.D.Farcot, Parisian; patent relates to forms of ship propellers, use of tubular iron framing and "adapting to sides and bottom of vessel series of inclined planes or wedge formed pieces, which as vessel is driven forward will have effect of lifting it in water and reducing draft"; in developments concept are traced from that through 1950's; diagrams and/or photographs are included.
