Testing problems of vector thrust turbofans arising from incorporation of thrust deflection by means of rotating jet nozzles; details of test bed installed at Bristol Siddeley Engines to test Pegasus engines; interior of cell is 130 ft long, 39 ft wide and 44 ft high; problem in designing cell was layout of exhaust ducting; solution lay in construction of 4 separate manifolds, each 16 ft high, which extend from ground level to full height of nozzles when they are in horizontal position; round-the-clock testing is possible with nozzles operated in same manner as in flight and with minimum perceptible noise level outside bed.
