Results of comparative flight testing of three approach and runway lighting systems under simulated conditions of 1000 ft slant visual range; tests were carried out at Cologne-Bonn (West Germany) International Airport in Dec 1962 with Lockheed Super-Constellation aircraft; three systems consisted of existing layout at airport, reference pattern, suggested during Second meeting (1962) of ICAO Visual Aids Panel, and installation similar to that at New York Kennedy International Airport; analysis of measured data, obtained during 144 landings by 24 pilots, shows best overall landing performance for second configuration.
