It was noted in 1964 that many accidents occur when jet liners enter severe air turbulence, whether storm or clear; studies revealed pilot performance is compromised in many ways; to prevent this, crews should be properly restrained during all phases of flight; crew should trust gyrohorizon as only reliable attitude indicator, and they should be aware that "railroad track" turbulences may terminate in unusually severe turbulences; also, most reliable and readable artificial horizon should support pilot.
