If money represented by economic loss from night-time traffic accidents were to be spent on street lighting it would bring about nearly a twofold increase in street lighting expenditure and fourfold increase in amount of illumination; cities spending $ 1.50 or more per capita in street lighting receive proportionate benefits, while those cities spending less suffer losses in excess of saving effected.
