Significance of detailed variations in vertical wind profile to launch-vehicle responses; advances in accuracy and degree of detail obtainable in measurements of winds experienced by vertically rising vehicles have been achieved by smoke-trail rocket sounding techniques and data are being applied to simulated in-flight load studies; analytical procedure and computer program employed in solving for motions and bending moments experienced by representative launch vehicle structure with details of wind profile is illustrated.
