Concern is with purification of marine diesel crankcase oils; importance of efficient filtration of both fuels and lubrication oils is recognized, and has been highlighted by introduction of residual fuel burning in motor ships; with increased cases of crankshaft corrosion, mainly attributed to use of high sulfur content residual fuels, efficient crankcase oil maintenance to control mineral acidity is accepted as essential; methods and factors in selection of equipment, and maintenance of detergent oils are considered.
