Control of electrical fields associated with electrostatic images, in shape and magnitude, is basic factor in xerographic sensitometry; image fields are characterized, and alterations produced by electrical environment and effect on image development are shown; field intensity varies with spatial frequency, and has peak value in range of 7 to 12 lines/mm; when electrode spacing is equal to thickness of photoconductive layer, field intensity and field contrast at image surface are constant.
