Several examples are calculated of optimum utilization of low-thrust propulsion systems (electrical propulsion) and high-thrust propulsion systems (chemical or nuclear rockets); use of both systems in combination will often result in performance superior to that obtainable with either system alone; preliminary theories for optimizing staging and trajectories of such dual-thrust vehicles in field-free space and in central force field.
