Use of electrical propulsion for space maneuvers is discussed, and it is shown that for any given maneuver it is possible to define spacecraft parameters which maximize mass in final orbit; examples of various orbital transfers are given, and it is suggested that flexibility conferred by electrical propulsion can greatly extend scope for scientific investigations in space.
