Question is raised as to what extent active inclusion of man into space flight system increases or decreases reliability to crew and functions and missions of system; analysis of manned systems, comparing payload weights and missions time indicates that gain could be achieved by manned mode of maintenance; reliable crew performance in monitoring tasks can be achieved by decision-making training and display cues and sensory deprivation effects reduced by selection, training, and spacecraft arrangement.
