Differences in resistance and propulsive power between conventional and straight framed ship forms were investigated, using models with block coefficients of 0.71 and 0.82; it is possible to construct ship with straight frames showing better performance in calm water than conventional forms if precautions are taken not to disturb water flow; when consideration is given more to simplified building of ships fairly big sacrifices in performance amounting to about 50% for block coefficient 0.71 and 20% for 0.82 are made; attempts are made to calculate vortex resistance from towing tests at very low speeds.
