Benefits that can result from combustion of propane by railroad diesel engines in addition to economic benefits resulting from low cost fuel are shown; comparison of wear factors of diesel fuel and propane; study carried out at Southwest Research Inst for Texas and New Orleans Railroad on technical and economic feasibility of using natural gasoline or propane in EMD-567 railroad diesel engines; results obtained and conversion plans for existing engines that allow interchangeable fuel system to accommodate present supply and variable cost factors.
