Discussion of speed of ships; attaining of maximum speed is problem in reduction of weight and increase in strength of construction materials; considers speeds of 37 to 40 knots as maxima now feasible though river craft will not generally exceed speeds of 25 to 30 km. per hour for reasons of safety.
