Two methods of evaluating surface finishes of engine parts subject to wear; National Bureau of Standards process developed by H. K. HERSCHM AN is based on use of plastic replica which reproduces in minute detail protuberances and recesses of surface, and photoelectric means of evaluation; process developed by NACA Aircraft Engine Research Laboratory, also uses plastic replica, but examination is made by microscope.
