Erie Railroad has in service about 75 portable lighting units which are effective in lighting work areas; mounted on wheels, they are rolled to location where work is being done; when placed at distance of 9 or 10 ft from side of locomotive, they supply from 35 to 40 ft-c of almost shadowless illumination over vertical working plane; two lighting units have white enameled steel reflectors; there are two 100-w fluorescent lamps in each reflector.
