Paper shows that qualities required in propeller for ship are not always to be obtained by design based solely on open water data, and indicates effects which practical considerations have on choice of design and reasons for particularity of shape in some cases; differences between working conditions of screw in open water and behind ship; variability of wake in three different forms.
