Aerodetic or "dividing atmosphere" reasoning shows that altimetry in low flying and landing aircraft would become safer and easier with charts of D-values and S-values on earth's surface and by eliminating use of altimeter settings; effective flight planning is shown to depend upon aerodetic charts of D-values and S-values at vertical intervals of one nautical mile of barometric altitude; nautical foot, equal to 1/6000 of nautical mile, is proposed for international altimetric use so that these charts can be prepared by weather services and utilized by flyers.
