Maintenance requirements, previously determined by accumulated operating hours of major components, can now be based on actual component condition; maintenance recording system, including associated playback and data analysis equipment, is capable of analyzing jet transport performance under actual flight conditions and of detecting malfunctions or impending equipment failures before they become catastrophic; system is based on measurement of selected parameters and interpretation of these as means of predicting remaining life or impending failure of jet engine or other major components.
