On basis of data on Van Allen belt radiations, galactic and solar cosmic radiation, upper and lower limits of rad doses encountered in past solar cycle under practical amounts of mass shielding, are estimated; overall ionization dosage produced by low-level galactic cosmic radiation should not have serious effects after expeditions of 1-2 yr; mass shielding up to 80 g/sq cm would not reduce ionization dosage, but shield against heavy primaries and heavy ionizing secondaries and thus reduce biological dose; other conclusions.
