The  article  deals  with  problems  of  receiving  a  terahertz  signal  and  shows  the  possibilities  for  reducing  the  noise  characteristics of the receiver. Development of a receiver with high sensitivity for the said range is an important scientific  and technical objective. The most challenging issue is selection of a waveguide system to be based upon for construction  of the input part of the receiver. As such a system, it is recommended to use metal-dielectric waveguides. To suppress the  heterodyne noise, it is proposed to use the Mach –  Zehnder interferometer in the input part of the receiver. It is demonstrated  that, in contrast to conventional circuits, in this particular case a high degree of noise suppression of the heterodyne is  achieved with the use of only one mixing diode, thereby the noise figure of the receiver assumes a relatively low value.  The results obtained make it possible to develop highly sensitive receivers operating in terahertz range.
