The aim of this work was to evaluate the load models of payloads for multi-storey car parks of DIN EN 1991-1-1 with regard to current framework conditions, since the basic principles date back to 1975 and only a few adjustments have been made to date. For this purpose, a statistically reliable and extensive database of vehicle weights in multi-storey car parks was created by measurements (approx. 40,000 vehicles) and compared with the official reporting data of the Kraftfahrtbundesamt. This enabled the linking with vehicle dimensions and the consideration of all vehicles in Germany in the further course of the work. By means of current studies, a forecast scenario for the vehicle fleet in 2030 was created in order to be able to depict the probable change in the near future. Online surveys of 178 car parks were used to determine occupancy patterns in car parks in order to enable detailed virtual occupancy of car parks. Typical car park structures were investigated with regard to their load transfer effects and influence matrices of the decisive impact variables were derived in FE models. Finally, a simulation tool was programmed that processes the presented input data, simulates random loads of virtual car parks and determines impact time series as a result. The time series were evaluated with regard to their annual extreme values with a return period of 50 years to characteristic impact effects in order to comply with the specifications of the DIN EN 1990 for high-rise buildings. A back-calculation of the impact effects to equivalent substitute loads enabled the transfer to simple load models. The previous method for determining live loads for multi-storey car parks (approx. 45 years old) was fed with current data in order to make a comparison with it. However, the newly applied method turned out to be superior in terms of real car park occupancy (as pro-rata occupancy was also possible), detailed assessment of load transfer and extreme value methodology. In general, the current load models were confirmed. Even though the vehicle fleet has increased significantly in weight in recent years, the previous models were conservative enough and the adjustments to the standard in recent years were chosen sensibly. Using their own methodology, it was even possible to achieve results where the load models were somewhat lower and yet still safe for a predicted vehicle fleet for 2030. Finally, three load models were presented, one of which is particularly recommended as it corresponds to the current approach of the payload categories of DIN EN 1991-1-1 and prEN 1991-1-1. In addition, adjustment factors for a changing vehicle fleet were presented, so that an adjustment of the load models is possible when the vehicle fleet is known to change.
