The cooler synchrotron COSY is a synchrotron and storage ring intended to accelerate protons and light ions up to an energy in the range 200 MeV-2.5 GeV.$^{1.2}$ The upgraded cyclotron $\textbf{JULIC}$ will be used as an injector. The COSY ring consists of two 180 degree arcs and two 2$\pi$ (or $\pi$) straight sections (telescopes). The arcs' magnetic structure is based on 6 FDDF (or DFFD) periods. The accelerator circumference will be 184 m. To improve the quality of the beam, both electron and stochastic cooling will be used. The maximum designed particle intensity is 2 $\cdot$ 10$^{11}$ ppp. The main COSY parameters are listed in Appendix 1. In this paper the problem of COSY closed orbit control and its correction is discussed. The results of a simulation of the COSY closed orbit and its correction using different correction methods are given. The interactive computer program $\textbf{ORBIT}$, created especially for the simulation and correction of the COSY closed orbit, is described. The paper includes as well a survey of the orbit correction methods and related topics.
