With the increase of the residents’ commuting distance, the demand of the long-distance bus transit rises rapidly. The fluctuation of the passenger flow along the long-distance bus line inevitably leads to the waste of vehicle resource. The spatial analysis and quantitative measure of the long-distance bus are proposed on the demand. According to the route distance, the bus lines are classified and the passengers’ usage rate is calculated. Moreover, the bus service level is also evaluated by both the overall usage rate and the usage dispersion of the bus line. In this paper, 7 long-distance bus lines in Beijing with approximately 400,000 smart card data records are taken as the case study. This research can help to improve the efficiency of long-distance public transit and promote the allocation of the operation resource. It can be applied in other cities’ public transit utilization analysis based on the smart card system.
